A law amendment advanced by the Interior Ministry provides granting children of immigrants who were born and educated in Greece, the right to apply for citizenship once they reach the age of 18. The planned law provision has not become officially public and is not subject to public consultation with immigrant and human rights organisations. According to media reports, second generation immigrants would be initially granted the long-term resident status prior to gaining access to the citizenship path. Nevertheless, the planned provision maintains the high fees of 1500 € and 900 € in order to apply for citizenship and long-term residence status respectively.
