Wave of racist incidents during Easter
Several racist incidents occurred during the Easter holidays (2.4.-5.4.2010) in eastern Finland. Two ethnic restaurants had their windows broken, and the tires of six cars whose owners were of foreign origin were punctured. The perpetrators of these crimes are still at large.
The incidents of racist crime in the region of North Karelia have not been as numerous since 2001, when there occurred a total of 65 racist incidents in the region. The trend is worrying, and most of the racist crimes have happened in the city of Joensuu.
