In March 2010, the Network Rights – Opportunities – Diversity, which is a loose alliance of NGOs working in the field of integration and anti-racism, organised a conference focusing on what an inclusive diverse society should look like. The conference worked on thirteen scenarios envisaging an inclusive political, legal, educational as well as health system, labour market, and media landscape. The aim of the conference was to create a positive image of an inclusive society, to emphasise its potentials and to challenge the current public integration debate, which is rather deficit-oriented and tries to play off those with a migration background against those without such a background. The conference was followed by 13 individual workshops which aim at developing strategies and measures how to reach the aim of a more inclusive society. A few newspapers like Wiener Zeitung and Die Presse reported on the conference.
