During the derby Ekstraklasa Cup match between Wisła Kraków and Cracovia, fans shouted racist slogans; when a Cracovia player was carried from the pitch on a stretcher, it was accompanied by the shouts ‘Take him to the crematory’. Further, the fans made monkey-like sounds at two black players of Wisła. After the conclusion of the game, Wisła players four times began to shout ‘Always better than you’ which supporters ended with words ‘fucking Jews’. Wisła players answered with an applause. In response to that racist conduct, the Ekstraklasa Board imposed a fine in the amount of PLN 30,000 on Wisła Kraków. The club was deprived of the possibility to order tickets for its fans for three away Ekstraklasa games. The players who allegedly encouraged to sing racist slogans were not held liable because of the insufficient evidence. According to the Ekstraklasa S.A. spokesperson, ‘Players cut themselves off any conduct of anti-Semitic nature and assured us that they did not intent to incite fans to shout such slogans’. The Wisła spokesperson explained on the TVN24 channel: ‘The players intoned the song expecting another response, i.e. ‘Cracovia, always better than you’. Social-Cultural Association of Jews in Poland] and Association of ‘The Children of the Holocaust’ in Poland filed the notification of a crime. They demand players and fans of Wisła and fans of Cracovia to be prosecuted for promoting Nazism and totalitarianism as well as public abuse on grounds of national status.
