The Jewish community of Lisbon denounced acts of vandalism on 20 tombs in the Jewish cemetery in Lisbon. Two young males were arrested promptly for painting the tombstones with Nazi swastikas. There was a public outcry about the offence and, subsequently, two members of the government as well as other religious leaders expressed their sympathies in a public ceremony held at the Jewish cemetery.
