Last condemnation for assault and batterry of a Brazilian transsexual
The case of the Brazilian transsexual who was severely beaten, raped and left to die in a well by a group of teenage boys in the city of Oporto in September 2006, as reported in the media, was brought to court. The murder charge initially brought by the prosecution was dropped in the final allegations, which triggered a public outcry by LGBT associations. Thirteen of those youngsters were condemned for assault and battery, with sentences varying between 11 and 13 months in a juvenile detention centre. The only youngster who was sixteen years old when the aggression occurred was condemned to eight months in prison for lack of assistance to the victim.
