Xenophobic attack against Ecuadorean student in Magdeburg
Early in the morning on 18 December 2010, a 24-year-old Ecuadorean citizen was a victim of a xenophobic attack near a bus station in Magdeburg. He was physically attacked by four men. Two friends of the victim, a 25-year old German of Ecuadorean origin and a 29-year old Mexican, got hurt when they tried to intervene. The 24-year old victim suffered serious injuries and was hospitalised. The assailants have been previously convicted for the use of anti-constitutional symbols and for bodily harm. The local court Magdeburg sentenced one man to two years and another man to one and a half year in prison. The other two assailants, aged 18 and 47, did not appear in the first court proceeding, but have to stand trial in another proceeding.
