Town Councillor Proclaims Travellers Should 'Lose Dole'
Ennis town councillor and former mayor Frankie Neylon has been criticized for suggesting Travellers found to be engaged in ‘feuds’ should lose their welfare entitlements. Mr Neylon claimed that Travellers;
“drive around in their new cars and salute you with their Prada coats on them and what have you . . . They should be hit in the pocket.”
There is no provision in Irish law for the withdrawel of social welfare on the grounds of criminal conviction.
