Short Answer

One of the on-going debates is about the effectiveness of the Government’s new strategy focused on a work line as part of the ‘integration’ policies rather than policies targeting awareness or activities regarding anti-discrimination on the labour market.

Qualitative Info

The governments work line has been critiqued by the local employment agencies because of increasing the newly arrived refugees’ dependency on social assistance. Critical voices say that the new integration reform is a trap for the newly arrived persons. For those newly arrived refugees that for different reasons are unable to take part in the establishment plan with the employment agencies, the pressure is very high since they lose the possibility of financial compensation. This means that they are forced to live on social assistance while preparing to enter the establishment program. It is said that the pressure to work has been put before the well-being and security of the newly arrived refugees.[1]
